Diaper cake and a purse made out of diapers!!

I have a hard time saying no to a challenge...so when the girls at my work asked if I could make something out of diapers for a co-worker's baby shower I jumped at the chance. I love making "towel" cakes...so I knew I wanted to incorporate that method into this diaper cake.

Here it is!!!

I browsed the internet and found my starting point. Rubberbands and patience will be your friend in this project.

Yes, I did roll up a whole box of Huggies diapers...size 1. I used baby hair ties to keep them in place.

It took a while to figure out how to start, and I am sorry I didn't photograph the whole process step by step...this was my first time making a diaper cake and I got lost in creative mode.

Here is the result of a fun hour!! The bottom tier is filled with diapers and wrapped in a receiving blanket...I tucked in a bib at the base. The second tier is simply a rolled fleece baby blanket with a few diapers tucked in so as to help secure blanket. (Nothing is "pinned" so everything on this "cake" is usable). The top tier is filled with diapers, and another receving blanket wrapped and tucked into them. I found some easter grass (shredded colored paper will do) for the "icing". Then I tucked in flowers as a topper. There are booties attached to the one side of the cake, and a crocheted pink hat on the other side. The other "flowers" on the cake are hair pins and headbands for the little princess.

And lastly, I had 12 diapers left over and experimented with making a diaper "handbag". I really wish I had before pics to show you. BUT, I know I'll be recruited for this again...and I will definitely take better "step" pictures. Once again, I loved making a tier "cake~so many ways to make one!
